IB/3 APPLEDORE/INSTOW FERRY SERVICE

Picture
The Appledore/Instow service was instituted when Bideford Bridge went wonk. Cannot put names to the faces but they should be clear enough to recognise. DUKW under the bridge was driven by me, had Lt. Andersen with his back to us and also a crew that I couldn't name. I drove because I was the best boat handler!! and while we were underneath the piling slipped again and I was out of there pretty sharpish. The Board of Enquiry for the Dukw lost in the EXE Valley pinned me down (ever so gently) as the senior officer present. If there was to be a repeat at Bideford I was going to go down with the ship!! What fun...!
